Marin Mersenne (8 September 1588 - 1 September 1648) was a French theologian, philosopher, mathematician and music theorist.

In the context of mathematics he is primarily remembered today thanks to his association with the Mersenne primes. The Mersenne twister, named for him, is frequently used in computer engineering, and in related fields such as cryptography.
