The magnitude of a complex number is the length when considered as a 2D-Vector in the complex plane or on the Argand Diagram. This is used in the polar representation of a complex number and is computed using Pythagoras' Theorem * $|~a+bi~|~=~\sqrt{a^2+b^2}$ The square of the magnitude of a complex number is also the product of the number with its complex conjugate.
