In differential calculus, the "Quotient Rule" says: * If $f(x)~=~\frac{g(x)}{h(x)}$ then ** $f'(x)~=~\frac{g'(x)h(x)~-~g(x)h'(x)}{[h(x)]^2}$ The Quotient Rule can be deduced directly from the product rule and chain rule by noting that $\frac{g(x)}{h(x)}~=~g(x)[h(x)]^{-1}.$ Some teachers never teach the quotient rule, preferring instead to rely on a solid understanding of the product rule and chain rules.
