The term "whole number" is used by some people as a non-technical term, trying to avoid words that people might not recognise and relying on intuition and "normal" language. However, different people mean different things by the term "whole number", so some care must be exercised. Some of the possible definitions: * ${1,2,3,\ldots}$ * ${0,1,2,3,\ldots}$ * ${\ldots,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,\ldots}$ ** These are the integers. See also Counting Numbers, Natural Numbers, and Integers.
